Thanks for sharing! We had this on our itinerary but ran out of time in Australia, though the Great Ocean Walk was incredible. We will definitely get to enjoy this trek in the near future. We arrive in Hokkaido in two days for a couple weeks before heading south. We hope to check off some of your recommendations before our 90 days is up.
Oh, wow, what a wonderful time to be in Japan for 90 days - you get both the fall colors and then later the winter up north. I hope you have a fantastic trip!

Transportation was tricky, but luckily a few small companies in the area offer trail transport, and I arranged mine with Oak Drive (https://www.oakdriveco.com.au/), based in Margaret River. The other option was to camp along the trail, but an option I usually choose to avoid if I have other options. I did the same when hiking the Great Ocean Walk.

Nice. Was it hard to return to the base after each section ? As Australia is a country of drivers , not walkers …
