Thank you for introducing Japanese culture! When I was living outside of Japan, always missing onsen. My favorite one is Hottarakashi Onsen in Yamanashi.

Have you ever been to Hoshi Onsen? It's our favourite

That is such a timely comment! I have not yet been there but booked to go in April with a friend. I am now even more excited!

I love 温泉. This is a wonderful, well written article. I’m coming back to Kyoto this summer, where not many onsen but there are many Sentou, bath houses.

Satoko-san, thank you for your time and kind words!

I hope at some point you'll come visit some of the onsens here in Chugoku. Perhaps Yunotsu Onsen (温泉津温泉) which is, I think, unique in having onsen twice in the name, just pronounced differently to confuse the unwary (and American technology companies)

I will look it up right away, and thank you for adding one more option for the readers.

that's deep, you're showing how rhythm, environment, and shared vulnerability shape a quieter kind of belonging

Thank you for sharing this information. I am moving to Kyushu in May, so I will definitely be adding Kurokawa to my list of places to visit!

My favourite thing about Japan is soaking in an onsen at night after a tiring day of exploring ❤️ can’t wait to be back and check out some of the onsens mentioned here

Christine, as always, thank you for your kind note. Honestly, as I am sure many others also feel, it feels a little strange and out of place to write about travel at a time when our world is going through such intense turmoil. So I hesitated a lot about posting this month's letter, but now I find comfort in your comment. Thank you.
