Hokkaido is top of our list on our next visit to Japan. Agree with you 100% about Kyoto.

Burcu - what a generous piece to share, thank you. I have been in Japan for a long time and some of what you shared was nostalgic and some new so a great combination. I am loving your writing and photography.

I really enjoyed SILENCE and didn’t realize that those islands are a place I can visit, thanks for the tip! Definitely on my list now!

Thank you for time. They actually did the filming in Taiwan but Goto Islands is where the main events of the historical period underlying the fictional story took place. A wonderful place to visit.

I can’t disagree more with Kyoto. Likely it was magical up to about 1970 or so when the city showed its true (tasteless) colors by green lighting that so-called Tower outside the station. The new Kyoto Stetion, or should I say shopping mall, was another signal should we have needed any more.

But Paris! I too absolutely adore that city and will likely never tire of spending time there…even doing nothing.

Then "we will always have Paris" :) I also appreciate your opinion about Kyoto - I know that many people share your sentiment, just not me :)

I am always when I see a newsletter from you in my inbox: I don’t want to read it because it will fuel my desire to visit Japan, but I also always can’t wait to read and see your photographs. This was another great read! Thank you!

Fascinating, and thanks! In some ways mirrors the history of certain Jews that had to hide their religion and where they were forced to convert to Christianity. (Ironic since Jesus had been Jewish…)

Very peaceful pics, too.
